Tom McGowan and Bryan Phelan presenting a donation from the Synge Street PPU Golf Society to Clare Catterson, Synge Street School Principal in October 2018.

Our outing in Castle GC which marked our 70th year was a great success. We had 60 play and 54 sat down for dinner including our President Damien Byrne, the school principal Claire Catterson and a number of past presidents of the PPU.

In his post dinner few words Damien thanked us for the significant contribution which our fund raising makes each year to the school activities.

Claire put some “meat on the bones” by describing how some of the money supports certain students participate in the extracurricular educational trips which would otherwise be beyond their financial reach.

Bryan presented his prize together with our 64 year old cup to the winner Paddy Gavan (39 points). He also invited Hugh Millar to be captain for 2019.

Our raffle proceeds were almost €1300 which together with the raffle in May allows us to make a contribution this year of €2000 towards Claire’s projects.

The turnout for this event is very encouraging and made for a most enjoyable days golf and evening.

We hope to build on this and will be using some social media communications to reach out to all past pupils in the PPU data base.
