Captain (Ret.) Ted Murphy
Ted Murphy started flying commercially in 1967 and retired in his 65th year in 2013. He flew
for Aer Lingus for 37 years but also, when on special leave from Aer Lingus, flew for different
periods with Gulf Air, Transavia and Air Lanka. He also spent 3 years as a senior official in ICAO
based in Montreal. Having retired from Aer Lingus, He was appointed as Flight Ops Manager
with JetMagic in Cork in Ireland and eventually finished his 46 years piloting with Jet2 in the
UK.
Ted was first elected to the IALPA executive council in 1973 and attended his first IFALPA
conference in 1977 and has attended very many conferences and IFALPA events since. He
was elected to a number of officer positions in IALPA and served 2 terms as President of IALPA.
He was also elected to a number of positions in IFALPA and served as Principal VP-Tech,
Deputy President and served 2 terms as President of IFALPA.
Since he retired from Flying, Ted has continued to contribute to IALPA and was on the interim
council of the Ryanair Pilot Group for a number of years. He continues to assist IALPA as an
advisor.
Ted lives in Dublin with his wife, Pauline. They have a family of 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren

Captain Ted (Tadhg) Murphy (Stoneybatter and late of Limerick City and Pilot at Aer Lingus for 38 years out of a 43 year flying career) passed away peacefully on the 24th January 2021 after a short illness bravely fought at The Mater Private Hospital.  Son of the late Tadgh and Josephine Murphy. Beloved partner to Róisín Wall, father to Kate and Geni Murphy and ex-husband to Tess Reynolds. He will be greatly missed by his partner, daughters, former wife, sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-klaw Sheyla and Mike, Paul and Geraldine, Helen and Morteza (USA), Derry and Mags, grandchildren Ellen and Pia, nephews Ronan, Ross and Rory, and Róisín’s family Deirdre and the late Henry Wall, Edmond and Sharon, Billy, Fionnuala and Liam, Grainne and Dara, extended family, Aer Lingus colleagues, wonderful neighbours and friends.
 
A private family funeral will take place at 10.30am on Friday morning at the Unitarian Church, St. Stephen’s Green West, which can be viewed on their website (Click Here) and burial afterwards at Woodbrook Natural Burial Grounds, Killane, Co. Wexford.
